Immaculate conception cathedral is among the oldest and beautiful churches in pinachel. This historic church is also referred to by the locals as the Samba Kovil, and was constructed back in 1791 and it stands steadfastly for more than 300 years.
It is a white squat building in the White Town region and the church can serve as a peaceful place of prayer and to have an ideal visit by a tourist who adores history and architecture.
A Surviving Church
The present church was raised on top of the ruins of older churches that were destroyed due to the activity of natural calamity or invasion. The British invasion led to a damage of many structures but the Immaculate Conception Church remained intact and it is, therefore, a real source of strength and believing.
Portuguese Style Architecture
The church is architecturally Portuguese with the large white frontage, tall column and huge arch. Interiors are simple and peaceful and the place is very good to meditate and to pray. It is the official house of Puducherry Bishop as well.
Extra Celebration- Feast of the Church
The church has the Feast of Immaculate Conception which is celebrated each year at the 8 th of December. On this day, there are prayers, processions, celebrations which bring in very many visitors and local devotees.
